How to Merge PDF Files
Plan the document sequence before combining complete PDFs so the finished file reads correctly from cover to appendix.
What merging means
Merging appends each complete PDF after the previous one. It does not rearrange pages inside a source file.
- Example: report.pdf + appendix.pdf becomes one report followed by its appendix
- Rename files clearly before upload
- Use page-level organization for mixed-source page sequences
Merge step by step
Upload the PDFs, place the file cards in final reading order, review the sequence, then create the combined document.
- Add no more than 20 PDFs
- Keep every file at or below 50 MiB
- Keep the combined input at or below 100 MiB
Compatibility and signatures
Visible page content, links, and text annotations are preserved, while bookmarks, forms, attachments, and metadata are not.
- Editing can remove or invalidate a digital signature
- Encrypted, PDF/A, active-content, and malformed PDFs are unsupported
- Keep signed originals when their signed state matters
Common merge mistakes
Most problems come from incorrect file order, confusing Merge with Organize, or overlooking unsupported documents.
- Review the first and last page of each source
- Do not expect bookmarks or interactive forms to survive
- Keep a copy of every original
